Ft Pierce - on the move!

Karen:

We left St. Augustine at 6am, got coffee, lifted the anchor and headed back out to the Atlantic to start making way down the coast. Great weather, sunny day. We had 30+ hours ahead of us so it would mean our 2nd overnight underway. It felt so good to be back in the water and masters of our destiny once more!!

We motored much of the way, making about 4-5 knots. We sailed for a few hours in the afternoon, but were conscious of our speed dipping below 3 knots, that would give us too much delay, so we motored. The day went by uneventfully and the sun was starting to set before we knew it. We kept Flo up on deck for the entire trip, she still gets seasick if she goes below when we are on a passage.  Michael went down for a rest at 9pm and both kids wanted to stay on watch with me. Around 10 they were sleepy, Christian went below to his cabin and Flo snuggled in on the port bench. I found a nice spot to sit up on the transom that gave me a good view. Around 11 we were hailed on the VHF - there was another vessel on a collision course with us and they had altered course. Great!

Michael finds it hard to sleep when we are under way so around 11.30 he came up to spell me off. I fell asleep in Flo’s bed. My turn again at 2.30. I had to get Michael up to help me at 4, there were 2 massive cruiseships outside of Cape Canaveral and it was difficult to tell which way they were going. They manoevered to let us by, and Michael went back to get a bit more rest.

6am he was back up to let me rest. Flo and I spent some time on the foredeck and had a pod of Dolphins swim right under our feet and beside the boat!! Incredibly exciting. We rolled into Ft. Pierce around 1pm and got anchored. Michael went straight to bed and I made some food and hung out with the kids. We needed to get fuel so when Michael finished napping we go the dingy ready and took our Jerry cans over to the fuel dock to fill up. We then got the kids and went into the beach for a swim and a shower, shampoo and all in the outdoor public shower. Clean and tired we headed back to the boat for some shut eye, feeling great to have completed 130 miles that day!
