Gulf Stream crossing to the Bahamas
by the littlest sailor Florence Janet Keane.
It was a warm Miami morning. My parents got up at around 4 am and left by 5 am. I woke up around 730 am and we were on the move- yay. Me and my brother went upstairs on deck to see how it was going. It was really rolly downstairs and I got nauseous really easily. At around 9 am my mom made vegetarian egg sandwiches. They were really good and we gobbled them up quickly because we hadn’t eaten all morning. My brother and dad even had second ones. It was getting hotter and hotter and I was still in my pj’s so i decided to change into some normal clothes but my brother didn't he just stayed in his pj’s [like always].
It was 11 am and we were the only boat out there. We were also pumping out dua lipa music and me and my mom were singing along [to the songs we knew]. Then we ate lunch, a charcuterie board, salami, crackers, olives, cucumbers, and pickles and cheese. It was delicious and we gobbled it up.
Then my mom and I went up onto deck and got sprayed by the waves. That was fun but we got really salty. Then the water suddenly became a really pretty dark blue colour and it stayed like that. Now at this point we could see the land, yay [LAND HO] the land got clearer and clearer until we could actually see the beach chairs and umbrellas. The water was so clear and we could see the bottom. As soon as we got there [even though we were not checked in] I went into the water straight away. It was so clear and I had my snorkel mask on and I could see the bottom. It was sandy and smooth and it had these little seaweed jumbles everywhere on the ground. Soon after my dad came in too. He swam up to the anchor I couldn’t because I was too tired. He also tried swimming to the bottom but it was too deep. [Spoiler alert he was able to touch the bottom when we went swimming the next day and so was I].
