Shafted at the Boatyard
Sailor Florence Janet Keane:
The message behind this picture is from an accident that had happened. This is how it went…
We had a little damage on the hull of our boat, so we decided to go fix it at the boat yard we originally had the boat stored called Oasis marina, in St. Augustine. So they pulled the boat out of the water and none of us had noticed but the strap on the machine had bent the prop shaft. A few days later, we got an email from the boat yard saying someone had put a stand under the prop shaft and it had bent. So maybe an hour or 2 later we were at the boat yard to check it out. It would cost a lot of money to fix it, but we need it to move our boat.
We were at this beach house when we got the email and they said that depending on the time it took to get the prop shaft out and then wait for the replacement to get here, it would probably take longer than the time we had the beach house booked for. So a few days passed and the time had come to move out of the beach house, and they hadn’t done any work yet! So we had to move into a motel, a cheap one. Ok i was happy about this because there was a breakfast buffet and it was free. so we stayed at that motel for probably like 2-3 weeks but after a while my parents wanted to change up the scene a little bit so we moved to… another motel. I was still happy because there was still a breakfast buffet, and i made some good friends. At this point we were getting sick of motels but at least the next day they had pulled out the prop shaft yay. So we had ordered the replacement
Sadly one day on our way to the boat yard my brother fell off his bike and broke his arm. Me and my dad still went to the boat yard, but didn’t do much work on the boat. During all this drama I found my wallet that has 250 dollars in american in it that i had lost when we were in Brunswick, so that was exciting!! And that same night I took us all out for ice cream to celebrate. So my brother got a cast thing or just something to hold his arm in place. And finally after what felt like years and years and years the prop shaft replacement came and we just had to wait for them to put it in. So they finally did get it in, and then we came back in the water on a Monday. So that’s how the story went it was a pretty wild adventure and I definitely did not tell all the details but i told the core of the story.
