Friends Aboard

A few weeks ago, some of our best friends from Vancouver came to visit for Christmas and after a few days in an Air B&B we were finally ready to go on the boat. We went before them so we could do a quick clean before they arrived but as we were getting the boat in ship shape, we learned that the night before another boat had accidentally pulled up our chain as it was leaving, but that nothing was damaged and luckily our anchor caught itself on a rock In fact, our boat neighbor had repositioned our boat for us – we owed him a big thank you! We brought him homemade shortbread the next day.

The next day was Christmas we were planning to leave but we decided to stay in Fajardo because our outboard had stopped working the day before, so we had to fix it. Christmas was a blast I got some Lego but the highlight for me had to be the spear gun. Also, the Lauls gave everyone in our family also a pair of wireless headphones! The next day was the day of our departure, and it was a beautiful day the sky was clear, the wind at our back as we set sail to Culebra. The sail took six ½ hours and we were able to sail for five of those and we were settled in by 3:00. We spent a few days in Dewey a town on Culebra, which was awesome my favorite part was going to Flamenco beach and checking out the abandoned Sherman tanks but after a few days it was time to move on.

On the 29th we sailed from Culebra to Culebrita, a small island off the coast of Culebra. It was beautiful but sadly we couldn’t stay the night because it was a nature reserve. So we sailed over to a nearby bay to stay the night. The next day we tried to go over to Culebrita but couldn’t because of the sea state we had to turn back. Later that day we went swimming in the bay with the spear gun. But while we were testing it we sadly lost the spear. After losing the spear we decided to go back and call it a day.

On the 30th we set sail for Vieques, specifically a town on the south coast called Esperanza. When we got in we all went for a swim and went to sleep. The next day was New Year’s Eve, and we planned to try to stay up all night but not all of us made the it.

After 10 awesome days on the boat, it was time for our friends to go home and hope they come again.
